CAMP LIFE

As the children arrive during check-in time, they are assigned to a cabin with four to ten other children
their age and at least two counselors – girls with girls and boys with boys. Bunk beds and mattresses are
provided, but campers and counselors are expected to bring pillows, bedding and/or sleeping bags. The
cabins have heaters and air conditioners, so campers are able to stay comfortable during cabin time.

We have many activities planned each day. We get started right away with pictures and making “warm
fuzzies” (mailboxes to build friendships). Every year we try to include a few new activities that will
integrate our theme for the year with the same old favorites that make our children come back year
after year. Our daily activities depend on the weather and the health of our campers, so rain or heat
may cut our outdoor activities short but we “smile and are flexible” to plan additional activities to keep
our campers having a fun-filled camp. Here are some activities that are a tradition at camp:

Swimming, Water slides, Crafts, "Warm fuzzies", Camp songs, Frisbee golf, Nature hikes, Sitting volleyball/4-H Square, Water games, Zip line, High-wire adventure, Trust course, Boat making, Scavenger hunts, Carnival games,  and A kid-focused dance with DJ music

Each day we have a fairly consistent schedule so the kids and counselors know what each day will bring.
However, we always like to surprise the kids with an activity they will not be expecting. A typical day at
Camp CoHoLo is as follows:

7:30 – Rise and shine
8:00 – Flag raising (each group has a day to do their own flag raising)
8:15 – Breakfast
9:00 – 12:00 – Activities
12:00 – Lunch
1:00 – Cabin time
1:30 – 3:00 – Activities
3:00 – Afternoon snack
3:15 – Activities
4:45 – Cabin time
5:30 – Dinner
6:30 – Evening entertainment
9:00 – Campfire (each group has a night to do their own campfire)
10:00 – Lights out

Campfires are our favorite time to end the night. One group of kids is in charge of planning the songs,
skits, counselor consequences, and deep thoughts for each campfire. There's something special
about a starry sky, a crackling fire, chirping locusts, and a bunch of great kids out having a great
camp experience. Each year, the oldest group of kids is in charge of their last campfire at CoHoLo, to
reminisce about the great years they’ve had at camp, followed by “Candles on the Hill” the passing of
the torch to the next-to-the-last group.
